Air Fried Shrimp With Pickled Jalapeño Dipping Sauce

Who doesn’t love some crispy fried shrimp!? I know I do. I wanted to make an easy air fryer version of this delightful meal. All good finger foods needs a great dipping sauce to go with it. Which is why I served them with this pickled jalapeño dipping sauce. I’ve made this sauce a few times and it’s always so satisfying! So, I figured it was time to throw it on the blog.

I threw some taco seasoning into the breading mix to give some extra flavor to this dish. The recipe calls for panko breadcrumbs. It gives the perfect crisp. However, you can use Trader Joe’s gluten-free rice crumbs and gluten free flour to make this recipe gluten-free. I’ve tried both methods. Either way, they are delicious!

Air Fried Shrimp With Pickled Jalapeño Dipping Sauce

Air Fried Shrimp
1 lb shrimp, peeled & deveined, defrosted if frozen
1 cup panko breadcrumbs, Trader Joe’s rice crumbs for gluten-free version
1/2 cup flour, gluten-free flour if need be
2 eggs
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp taco seasoning
cooking spray

Pickled Jalapeño Dipping Sauce
1/3 cup mayo
1 tbsp diced pickled jalapeños
1 tbsp of liquid from pickled jalapeño jar
2 tbsp Trader Joe’s taco sauce, can use hot sauce as an alternative

First, make your dipping sauce by combining all of the ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Taste and add a pinch of salt if need be. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Pat dry the shrimp very well. Season with salt and pepper on both sides.

In a shallow bowl combine panko and taco seasoning. In another shallow bowl whisk together the eggs and water. In a third shallow bowl combine flour with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Dip each shrimp in the flour (shaking of any excess flour), then egg mix, then the panko. Make sure shrimp is fully coated in breadcrumbs.

Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray.

Add coated shrimp (you will probably have to work in batches) in a single layer to the sprayed air fryer basket. Spray shrimp with cooking spray.

Air fry at 370 for 5 minutes on each side.

Serve with dipping sauce and enjoy!
