The perfect spread for all your fall treats!
I absolutely love apple butter this time of year. I spread it on my homemade baked apple donuts [3], breads, muffins, basically anything sweet! I just made apple butter thumbprint cookies (recipe coming very soon) and they were absolutely delicious. Needless to say, apple butter should be fall staple. Most of the ones you find in the store are loaded with extra sugar, which is super unnecessary.. it’s sweet enough on it’s own! I made my own very simple, no-sugar added apple butter in the crock-pot and it was beyond easy and super yummy!
Print [2]No Sugar Added Crock Pot Apple Butter
Ingredients
4 lbs. apples, cored and peeled (I used about 12 small apples)
1 tsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
Instructions
Place all the ingredients in a crock-pot and cook on high for 5-6 hours
Stir and pour the apple mixture into a food processor or blender and blend/process until smooth
Place back in the crock-pot for another 1-2 hours, or add to a pot and simmer on the stove until the apple butter is thickened (should take about 20 minutes on the stove)
Store the apple butter in an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to two weeks, or freeze for longer use!
