Asian BBQ Steak Skewers

Tender Asian BBQ marinated steak bites with bell peppers and red onion make for the best summer-time skewers! Easy to make and loaded with flavor!

Asian BBQ steak skewers

One of my favorite meals to make during grilling season is skewers! Whether, it’s steak, chicken, shrimp, veggies! I love that you can marinade them all different ways and load them with your favorite vegetables. I usually do bell peppers, onions, zucchini, mushrooms! For these specific skewers, I do bell peppers and red onion. If you’re a mushroom fan, they would pair so well with these!

Steak skewers

It took me numerous times to photograph this recipe. For some reason I just couldn’t get them to look as good as they taste (which is hard to begin with because they’re so delicious) and I felt so defeated. But, I knew I had to get them on the blog and share this easy recipe so I kept trying. I’m pretty happy with how these photos came out. Food photography is something I love but can sometimes be the most difficult part of this job for me.

Asian BBQ Steak Skewers

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

1.5 lbs. steak sirloin cut into bite size pieces (about 1 inch)

1/2 red onion, cut into chunks

1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks

1 orange or yellow bell pepper, cut into chunks

Marinade

1/4 cup coconut aminos or soy sauce

2 tsp sesame oil

1 tbsp BBQ sauce

1 tsp ginger paste or fresh grated ginger

salt and pepper to taste

Sauce to brush on

2 tbsp BBQ sauce

1 tbsp coconut aminos or soy sauce

Optional

sesame seeds for topping

blistered shishito peppers on the side (see notes)

Instructions

First season your steak bites with salt and pepper. Next add them to an air tight container or zip-block bag with the marinade. Make sure the steak bites are fully coated and let marinade in the fridge for at least 1 hour or overnight.

If you’re using wooden skewers, let them soak in warm water for 20-30 minutes before using so they don’t burn.

Once steak is marinated, assemble your skewers by threading on meat, bell pepper chunks and red onion chunks. Brush on the BBQ sauce mixed with coconut aminos.

Preheat grill to medium high heat.

Grill skewers for 8-10 minutes or until they’re cooked to your liking!

Top with sesame seeds and serve with blistered shishitos if you’d like, serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

*To make blistered shishito pepper: heat about 1 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the shishito peppers to the skillet and toss them around frequently until they are blistered and softened.
