I’m a huge fan of goat cheese. But, frying it just brings it up to a whole different level of deliciousness. I love making fried goat cheese salad [3]. It’s such an easy way to elevate any salad. However, fried goat cheese on it’s own makes a great appetizer or snack. Drizzled in hot honey makes it beyond drool-worthy. I use Trader Joe’s hot honey. But, you can also get Mike’s hot honey [4] on amazon which I heard is great. You can also make hot honey at home. This [5] recipe looks good.

The holidays are approaching and this is the perfect recipe to share with friends and family. I feel like it’s unique and fun. It’s kind of like the adult version of mozzarella sticks. They are also very easy to make which is always a bonus during the holiday season. So these would be great for a friendsgiving, Thanksgiving appetizer, holiday party, or New Years eve gathering. To be honest, my husband and I make them for ourselves regularly because they are just that good. Also, I’d like to mention that I do not recommend trying to air fry these! So with that being said, cooking them in a skillet with some oil is the way to go.

Fried Goat Cheese


Ingredients

Scale

1 (10-11 oz) log of goat cheese
1/2 cup flour
pinch of salt and pepper
pinch of garlic powder
1 egg
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
oil for frying
hot honey
chopped parsley for garnish, optional


Instructions

In one shallow bowl add the flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder. In another shallow bowl whisk in the egg with 1 tbsp of water. Then in a third shallow bowl add the panko breadcrumbs.

Slice the goat cheese so in circles. You want to make sure the goat cheese is coming straight from the fridge and has not been sitting out on the counter. This helps keep the goat cheese firm. Another option is to form the goat cheese into little balls by slicing it and then roll each slice into a small ball shape.

Dredge each goat cheese slice or ball into the flour, then the egg wash (dripping off any excess), then coat in the panko breadcrumbs.

Place coated goat cheese on a plate or cutting board and freeze for 15-20 minutes.

Add a generous amount of oil to a skillet over medium heat. Once hot add the goat cheese and cook until both sides are browned and crispy. It should only take 2-3 minutes per side. Add to a paper towel lined plate.

Drizzle fried goat cheese with desired amount of hot honey and top with fresh chopped parsley if desired. Enjoy!
