Chipotle Black Bean Burgers

Super easy and delicious gluten-free chipotle black bean burgers! The perfect meatless meal made with only clean ingredients.

Chipotle Black Bean Burgers - Dash Of Mandi

I’ve been wanting to create a black bean burger recipe for quite some time now. I always buy the packaged ones at the store for a nice vegetarian option to have at home. However, I noticed it’s so hard to find them with clean ingredients. There’s always a bunch of processed junk and canola oil. Plus, the main reason I want them is to have a healthier meal.

They are incredibly easy to make. You do need a food processor or high powered blender to make these! Click here for the food processor I have. I use it all the time. They come in all sizes and prices which is great.

What you’ll need for this recipe:

Black beans from a can, an egg, chipotle in adobo sauce, garlic, chili powder, smoke paprika, onion powder, jalapeño (optional), and oat flour. You can buy oat flour at most stores but I usually make my own by blending old fashioned oats until they’re a flour consistency. I also recommend Sir Kensington’s chipotle mayo with these. It really brings out that chipotle flavor. And some avocado always makes everything better. I served mine a gluten-free bun. I also love eating them in a lettuce wrap, on salad or sweet potato buns! Either way these chipotle black bean burgers are delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained, rinsed and pat dry a bit
1/2 cup oat flour
1 egg
1 chipotle in adobo sauce
1-2 tsp adobo sauce from the can
2 garlic cloves
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
pinch of onion powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 jalapeño, seeds and ribs removed, finely chopped, optional
For serving (optional)
chipotle mayo, or condiment of choice
sliced avocado
buns or lettuce wraps

Instructions

Using a food processor (a high powered blender will also work) add black beans, garlic, chipotle, and adobo sauce. Blend until somewhat smooth, but do not over blend. You want the black beans to have some texture/be chunky not pureed.

Transfer black bean mix to a medium mixing bowl and whisk in the egg. Add seasonings and oat flour. Add jalapeño if using. Mix to combine.

Form into patties and place on a plate. The mixture will be very wet/messy but do your best to make them into burgers.

Place the plate of burgers in the fridge to chill and firm up for 20-30 minutes.

In a skillet over medium heat add 1 tbsp olive oil.

Add the burgers once heated and let them cook 4-5 minutes per side or until they are heated through.

Serve on a bun or lettuce wrap with chipotle mayo and avocado if desired! Enjoy.
