Refreshing and a little sweet strawberry basil margaritas made with all real ingredients! The perfect spring time cocktail!
It’s almost cinco de mayo! It was only right to post a new margarita recipe on here. We have been experimenting with new margarita recipes a lot since we started this social distancing thing. We sure do miss our happy hour spots. However, we realized we can make delicious margaritas right here in our home. Also, they happen to be a whole lot cheaper and healthier. We only like to use a handful of simple ingredients.
The key to a great margarita
Cointreau is the key to a great tasting margarita. It’s an orange liquour that you can find in any liquor store! All you need is about 1 oz. for one margarita and it will give such a nice balance of flavors. You also need fresh lime for a good margarita recipe. This is something we always have at home. I also love doing fun rims on my cocktail glasses. If it’s a spicy margarita, we’ll do a chili lime rim. In this case we just did some pink Himalayan sea salt! It adds a little bite and goes great with the tequila.

These margaritas are so refreshing and the perfect amount of sweet! Strawberry and basil go so well together. At a restaurant I once tried a vodka strawberry basil cocktail, it was amazing! However, I’m way more of a tequila girl. With that being said, feel free to use vodka if that’s what you prefer! A little Tito’s can’t do no harm 😉
PrintStrawberry Basil Margaritas
Ingredients
4–6 basil leaves
Sea salt for a rim on the glasses, optional, you can also do sugar instead
ice
1 & 1/2 cup strawberries, chopped and blended until smooth
1 & 1/2 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz agave
3-4 oz. silver tequila, can do more/less to taste
1/2 lime, juiced
plain club soda, optional
Instructions
First make the salt rim on your glasses by rubbing a little lime on each glass. Honey or agave will help the salt stick even more so feel free to use that if you have it.
Sprinkle a generous amount of salt on a flat surface (plate, cutting board) and VERY gently dip your glass rims in the salt and coat them.
Muddle 2-3 small basil leaves in each glass then add ice.
In a shaker combine blended strawberries, Cointreau, agave, tequila and lime with lots of ice. Give it a good shake.
Pour into prepared glasses. Top with some plain club soda if you like your drinks less sweet.
Garnish with lime or a strawberry if desired and enjoy!
