These little fig butter bites with goat cheese and chopped walnuts in fluffy puff pastry are the easiest and most delicious holiday appetizer!
Looking for the easiest holiday snack with minimal ingredients? Look no further because these little bites are exactly what you need this year. They call for store bought fig butter which makes them so convenient. I love using Trader Joe’s fig butter. It’s a pantry staple in my house because I use it on charcuterie boards and my charcuterie pizza! Figs are hard to come by this time of year so having this butter around is super handy. However, if you have access to figs and would like to make homemade fig butter or jam, feel free to use that in this recipe.
What you need for this recipe:
- Fig butter or jam
- Puff pastry
- Goat cheese
- Walnuts
- Thyme
- A muffin tin
- Non-stick cooking spray
This recipe makes a lot because it’s meant for a large gathering. Also, they’re super addicting so even with a small gathering they will do just fine. But, they also call for a lot because typically puff pastry comes with two sheets. I didn’t want to waste the other so I decided to use both and figured most people will want to do the same! You can refrigerate the fig butter bites in an air tight container then reheat them for later too! I know this year won’t be a year for large parties. However, I’ll still be cooking a lot of food this holiday season because it makes me happy!

PrintFig Butter Bites
- Yield: 24 bites 1x
Ingredients
2 sheets of frozen puff pastry, thawed in the refrigerator overnight
8-10 oz. goat cheese, crumbled into small pieces
Fig butter, I use Trader Joe’s, fig jam will also work
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tbsp thyme leaves
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and spray two muffin tins, if you only have one muffin tin you will have to work in batches.
Cut each sheet of puff pastry into 12 squares.
Add each square to a muffin tin cavity.
Add a little bit of goat cheese to each puff pastry followed by the fig butter. I did about 1/2 a tbsp in each one and found it to be the perfect amount.
Add chopped walnuts.
Bake for 15-17 minutes or until the pastry is browned and crispy on the edges. If you’re cooking both batches at the same time, place the muffin tins on the top two baking racks in the oven and then alternate them half way through cook time.
Top with fresh thyme leaves and let the bites cool slightly before removing and serving.
